The unscheduled ethnic groups in the Annex-1 of the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities (NFDIN) Act-2002 have blocked the office one hour organizing a seat-in programme in front of the main entrance of the foundation on 21st Sept. 2007. The purpose of the seat-in programme was to build up a pressure to the foundation to move ahead the procedure for adding their groups in the Annex-1, said Hom Prasad Yamphu, the President of the Federation of Indigenous Kirat Association (FIKA).
During the Dharna the head of the Foundation Jitpal Kirat was absent however the Member-Secretary, Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa and other personnel were standing outside waiting for ending the event. Most of the staff was in a silent support of the programme as it is the legitimate demand.
A leader Ramji Bahing, Chairperson of the Bahing Kirat Mulukhhim urged to fulfill their demand otherwise the whole unrecognized groups shall not participate in the upcoming Constituent Assembly to be held on 22 Nov. 2007. Mr. Guru Syangyap Lama Karmarong says \"the NFDIN should initiate the process for unscheduled groups to enlist in the Annex-1 referring to provision of article-25 of the NFDIN\'s Act in which it is mentioned that the list can be amended.\" The ethnic groups representing from Aathpahariya, Kulung, Thulung, Chamling, Bahing, Lohorung, Nachhiring, Yamphu, Jerong, Sampang, Ghale, Nhinwa, Khaling, Thukchulung, and Bantawa Karmarong have strongly demanded to recognize their rights to self-identification and rights to self-determination. It is learnt that there are more than 50 ethnic groups are going to excluded in the upcoming Constituent Assembly which is propagated as an inclusive and proportionate in composition.
Their major slogans were - \"Immediately Recognize the Identity-less Ethnic Groups\", \"Enlist the other ethnic groups besides 59\" \"Our Struggle is continued\", \"Declare the state Federal Republic with rights to self-determination\" \"Manage Representatives in the Constituent Assembly based on language\", \"Unite All Indigenous Nationalities\".
A prominent indigenous activist Mr. Pratapsingh Nachhiring, Chairperson of the Kirat Rodu Nachhiring, Central Committee has said that if this indication does not make aware to NFDIN responsible they will bring other series of programme in coming days to make government aware in their issues.
The programme was jointly organized by FIKA and a Joint Struggle Committee of the Indigenous Peoples deprived from the identities for representing in the Constituent Assembly.
