  Kirat Welfare Society in Kanchanpur, the Far-West Region
Kirat Welfare Society and Nepal Ranatharu Society, Kanchanpur jointly launched an Indigenous Empowerment Program in Kanchanpur, Far-Western Region of Nepal on 23rd Sept. 2009. On the day an Alliance of local indigenous peoples was formed in the presence of Mr. Basanta Gurung, President of District Coordination Council of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Kanchanpur. In the alliance representative from Tharu, Ranatharu, Sohaha, Gurung, Magar, Newar and Tamangr were present. The allieance also identified their issues for advocating through out the year and also prepared an action plan. An interaction program on Civil and Political Rights was also organized for about 50 indigenous peoples.living in Kanchanpur district. On the day the participants were also trained on the international human rights of indigenous peoples. The program was supported by NGO-Federation of Nepalese Indienous Peoples (NGO-FONIN) and DANIDA/Human Rights Groups. The program was facilitated by the Executive Board Member of NGO-FONIN and the President of Kirat Welfare Society,Mr. Chandra Singh Kulung.
